Textiles as Treasure Sewing Sessions

This week sees the final session in our very first run of Sewing Sessions as part of Textiles as Treasure. Over the course of six workshops we have learned different skills and techniques to reduce Textile waste as a community and had fun along the way too!

We have had some amazing feedback from our community involved, everyone who has taken part so far has said that they have enjoyed the sessions. Participants have also said that the sessions are ‘’Very inspirational and fun’’ and that they have learnt lots of new skills such as ‘‘Learning how to play! And practice darning, appliqué and design’’

Below is a run through of all the things we have covered in the Sewing Sessions

1: Create a Four Square Patchwork piece

2: Attach Patchwork Piece to a garment

3: Creative Appliqué

4: Visible Mending with Hand-stitching

5: Darning Basics

6: Community Quilt

In this week’s final session each participant will design and create their own patch for our community quilt, inspired by what community means to them. The quilt will be added to over the course of the project by the community, volunteers and staff at Make it Happen and will be presented in 2022.

We will be re-running both the sewing sessions & craft sessions again in the new year. If you would like to register your interest for them please send us an email or text Amy our Textiles Champion on 07458306347 with which sessions you are interested in.
